P.O.E. makes sense for deep pocket clients but not for everyone- not everybody wants or needs the data.
An alternative is Low Voltage DC lighting- but finding the right company and solution for your client is not easy, as there is a lot of confusion out there.
In the end, AC line voltage lighting is 19th century tech being used in the 21st century- not only do you not need all that power anymore, LEDs are becoming more and more powerful v efficiency; 2-3 years ago, it was 80-100 lumens per watt, and now we're up to 200LPW- and some lab results are coming out with 1000 or more LPW (not commercially viable at the moment).
Plus, EMT/conduit and j-boxes- what an environmental nightmare- and drivers/ballasts for EVERY fixture? Insane.
So, you’re advocating powering predominantly power devices (as distinct from predominantly computing devices) with a cable that was designed to carry 1Gbps of data, with the ability to also carry power shoehorned on top of it? Given all the other options, that’s absurd.
